Littermates at the National

Posted on

The end of May, four of the Island Litter puppies and their owners attended the 2024 Welsh Springer Spaniels National Specialty in St. Louis, MO. It was held at the Purina Farms, a beautiful venue for dog shows. All four dogs did awesome in the ring! I was very proud of them and their owners.

Left to right, Venita holdings Anwen, myself holding Ria, Correne holding Seren and Lynne holding Bryar. What a bunch of beautiful dogs!

Tilly – SCN!

Posted on

Tilly had two legs in AKC’s Scent Work from the March 2023 National Specialty where she won the Iron Welsh Performance Challenge. So, I thought we’d see if we could pick up that third leg in Novice Containers. So we went to the Fond du Lac trial on May 11th and Tilly did not disappoint!

Tilly is GCH CH Fox River Celtic Little Chute JH WD BN NAP OJP VCX CGC FDC FITB TKN SCN.

For those of you who don’t know what all the abbreviations are – The first two are conformation titles. The ones on the other end are hunting, obedience, agility, farm dog, fit dog, trick dog, canine good citizen, and now scent work. One reason I like this breed so much is that they are very versatile. Tilly has been a great dog for me in so many ways. Hope I have her a good long time. More titles to work on in the future.

Anwen’s first points!

Posted on

At the Oshkosh show May 18, 19, Anwen really strutted her stuff! The little stinker earned a 3 point major on Saturday and Sunday another point. She is only 10 months old but already competitive. BIG thanks goes to her sister Iris for helping. And all my friends that helped me with the dogs, thank you!

Penny – Star Puppy and First Retrieves

Penny S and her two helpers earned her Star Puppy
Her first pheasant – bringing it to hand!
And, a water retrieve to hand!

Awesome little girl. She will be great in the field. Love to see the puppies doing what they were bred to do. Penny is nine months here.

Higgins earns his NW1 !

April 13th, Higgins and I drove down to Jefferson, WI for a Nosework trial. Having taken classes with Paula for awhile, I thought we might be ready to give it a try. Well, this 11 year old guy, gave me a stellar performance where everything just came together. Couldn’t be more proud of the his old guy. Yes, you can teach an old dog new tricks!

Pete On Call!

What a great write up on Pete and handler/owner Karen! Consider doing therapy with your dog. I’ll introduce you to Karen for the heads up on getting started. Thank you Karen for sharing Pete with others!

“Meet Pete! Pete is a Welsh Springer Spaniel and he has been a DOC Pet Partner with Karen P. since he was just over one year old. Pete started with bedside hospital visits, but since he’s now nine years old, those visits aren’t as easy as they were. He keeps a busy schedule, though, with group visits at Meriter’s Child and Adolescent Psych Hospital, Miramont Behavioral Health, Mendota Mental Health Institute, Columbia Correctional Institution (do you recognize him from the picture we posted last week?), Agrace Adult Day Center, the Fitchburg Library, and an occasional campus visit. In addition, he is one of our canine co-teachers for handler workshops, modeling perfect therapy dog behavior. In 2021, he became a Barn Hunt Champion (you’ll have to Google it!). He prefers mud puddles to clear water, loves getting his teeth brushed, and finds his little brother Ernie (also a Welshie) incredibly annoying. Thank you, Pete and Karen, for your outstanding commitment to Dogs On Call!”

Siri is on a roll!

Best of Opposite, Winners, Best of Breed Owner Handled and her first two points! Venita showed Siri the second weekend in April, 2024 and had a great show! So proud of this team – the first of the Tilly-Baloo litter to earn conformation points!

Best Puppy, Siri!

March 24th, out in the Pacific Northwest, Venita entered her new little girl, Siri, in her first dog show. The little stinker went Best Puppy at this supported entry. Way to go Venita and Siri!
A great start to this puppy’s show scene.
